Get Him To The Greek - Russell Brand, Jonah Hill and the director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall so you can count me in to on this one (75% on Rotten Tomatoes)

Killers - Mr. and Mrs. Smith the remix with Ashton Kutcher and Catherine Heigl, feel like a decent Fall date movie DVD at the house due to horrific reviews (6% on Rotten Tomatoes)

Markaduke - it's a kid film, animated, with voices, counter-gramming just in time for school to get out (11% on Rotten Tomatoes)

Splice - the scary movie that is preview on TV is this one, I'm out but looks scary (72% on Rotten Tomatoes)

Next Week: A-Team, The Karate Kid and in 2 weeks: Toy Story 3 & Jonah Hex

Movies This Weekend

Zombieland(86% Rotten Tomatoes) - I've never seen a movie so advertised, I think they spent more money on ads than the movie, not a big Woodie Harrelson fan or of zombie fans at all, I'll pass

Whip It (82% Rotten Tomatoes) - Drew Barrymore's directorial debut with everybody's favorite pregnant high schooler (Ellen Page) star in a movie about roller derby, worth a shot

Invention of Lying (58%) - Extras' Rickey Gervais and Jennifer Garner star in a romantic comedy, but to be honest I hate when funny guy like Gervais try be the least bit serious

Toy Story & Toy Story 2 in 3D (100%)- the computer animation that started the craze in 3D, move is the definition of a safety bet for the weekend

More Than A Game (68%)- Story of LeBron's high school team, great soundtrack, but who wants to see a basketball player in a movie, I think Spike Lee's Kobe movie ruined this one for me

Bruce Willis is a real human being in a future filled with fake ones trying to solve a murder

A bachelor party ruins two guys friendship and spends the 2nd half of the movie trying to save it

New Movies for The Weekend

Best week of new movies in what seems like forever and will be up until November as there are 4 big openings this weekend plus a few other movies coming out.

SEE
The Informant! - Matt Damon stars as Mark Whitacre a who works with the US goverment to show a price fixing scheme at his work. I'm pumped to see it and you should be too as it's gotten rave reviews plus Steven Soderbergh directed it.

IF SHE MAKES YOU
Love Happens - Jennifer Aniston and Harvey Dent himself (Aaron Eckhart) star in a late in life suprising love story. Sounds like every another Jennifer Aniston movie, but it'll be what the wifey wants to see this weekend so play along.

IF HE MAKES YOU
Jennifer's Body - Megan Fox plays a possessed high school cheerleader whose a killer. Bad reviews are abound, but it's a R movie and it's Megan Fox people will see it.

IF THE KIDDIES MAKE YOU
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - animated movie based on the best-selling book sure to please the little ones and who doesn't want to see food fall from the sky like rain

LITTLE RELEASES THAT MIGHT BE JUST RIGHT
Bright Star - indie film about a young poet and his lover before his untimely death
Burning Plain - Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger star in a mother-daugher film trying to rebuild their relationship

New Movie Friday

In what will be a soft new release weekend at the box office thanks to the return of the NFL and the VMA's on MTV on Sunday night leave us with the following new movie choices:

Whiteout - Kate Beckingsale (damn you looked good at the premiere) stars as US Marshal in Antarctica who must find the killer before winter starts in 72 hours

Sorority Row - I Know What You Did Last Summer at a sorority: 5 sorority sisters cover-up an accidental murder in remake of this 1983 film

Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself - Brad Pitt's mom from Button is in it and it's a Tyler Perry movie, people will see it just not my thing

9 - animated flick about an apocalyptic world without any humanss so it'll good for older kids, just not this one

Beyond A Reasonable Doubt - soft opening around the country so I might be jumping the gun in your city, but Michael Douglas stars as lawyer who frames himself for murder just to one up a newsreporter as he tries to run for office

Sorry to be so short and sweet, but next week should be much much better as Jennifer's Body, The Informant, and Love Happens all come out...

Labor Day Movies For The Weekend x2

Gamer - so the plotline is that gamers take over real people's body and fight, I think a ton of people will see this because it's the only newer action flick on a holiday weekend but I won't be

Carriers - OutBreak meets Roadtrip with Chris Pine, no go

Amreeka - single mother whos an immigrant and her son grow up in Illinois, so only if your wife takes you to see it, sorry I'm not that mature just yet

All About Steve - Mr. Hangover (Bradley Cooper) is a newsman being chased by an avid crossword puzzler Sandra Bullock so that makes it the date night movie of the week

Final Destination 3D - I'm all for these IMAX and 3D movies just not when the object is to scare the crap out of you

Halloween 2 - It's August and a Halloween movie is coming out, doesn't anybody else see why this could be a problem? Why not have Christmas movies in October too?

Taking Woodstock - Can we just have a 40 year anniversary concert like Bonnaroo in New York instead of all these movies and documentaries? OK, it's not for me

Time for Basterds

First off, the Avatar trailer is out and Mr. Cameron it looks like a kids movie. I'll see it when it comes out anyways, it's James Cameron people.

Inglorious Basterds - I'm all for Holocaust movies because I think as the survivors die off it's important to remember as Jew and human what happened but a Tarantino-Nazi movie seems too interesting to pass up like I think I'll have to see

Post Grad - the girl from Gilmore Girls (Alexis Biedel) in the easily written girl moves home after college to find job, man, and life story

Shorts - a kiddie movie about a boy with a wishing rock

X Games 3D - heard this movie was cool, but really who is going to take the time

The Marc Pease Experience - Ben Stiller and Jason Schwartzmann star in a movie about a kid in the high school musical who never grows up wish they had the marketing budget to get the movie a bit bigger pub

World's Greatest Dad - a Robin Williams comedy, wow he's fallen off the map but hey this why there's NetFlix to catch up with our lost comedic heroes

Popcorn or Twizzlers?

I'll take both, please. This week has a lot of new movies for everybody to choose from.

District 9 - Reminds me a lot of Cloverfield. No stars and great viral marketing. It looks like the movie will do $30 million and make back all of the money it cost to make in just 3 days.

The Time Traveler's Wife - Odd movie concept where a man literally drops in and out of somebody's life. The guy is married to Rachel McAdams in the movie, why would you ever leave her side?

The Cove - documentary on Japanese fishherman killing dolphins for tuna, I love tuna so I don't think I can make this one

The Good: Live Hard, Sell Hard - Jeremy Piven plays "Ari" in a movie about car salesman, the previews look like it'll be a funny flick, plus it has the writers from Talladega Nights

Bandslam - Vanessa Hudgens of HSM fame gets upset with the boys to start her own band, see-able for the little kids

Ponyo - animated Disney movie, need I really say anymore

Grab Your Popcorn

I was never a big movie guy, but in LA I feel like you have to be. With so many people working within the industry, movie are constant water cooler talk so if you haven't seen a movie you at least sort of need to to act like you have. This section of the blog will appear on Thursdays and review what's coming out this weekend. Since this is my first movie blog, I'll backdate some of my picks.

SEE
500 Days of Summer - This year's Juno, your gonna love it plus it has the kid from 30 Rock sort of grown up
The Hurt Locker - A war movie with great reviews, who would have thought

SEE-ABLE
Funny People - Funny for 90 minutes, then it gets serious, best viewed intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, tons of Jewish and male sexual organ jokes
G-Force - For kiddies what else is out
Harry Potter - I don't get the fascination in 700 page books about wizards but people love the guy

This Weekend
GI Joe - Transformers Part 3, bad acting and lots of things blowing up, great special effects make it see-able
Julie and Julia - Great counterprogramming from Sony while the boys see GI Joe, Meryl Streep and Julia Child is a match made in heaven for women in their 50's
A Perfect Getaway - How many times can Hollywood make same movie? Scary honeymoon trip movie, I'm out on this one
